Iraq Today - Sami Rasouli

  • Minnesota Peace Building 4200 CEDAR AVE S Minneapolis United States (map)

Iraq Today: An Eyewitness Account by Sami Rasouli will be held at 7 pm on Monday, August 26, 2019 at 4200 Cedar Avenue South in Minneapolis.

Sami will speak about about the current situation in Iraq today from the point of view of the Iraqi people – how they view their political system and the continued U.S. presence, in addition to efforts at reconciliation within Iraq, rebuilding cities devastated by ISIS, the impact of refugees, and Iraqi’s hopes for the future. He will also make the connections between the situation in Iraq and the current U.S. economic war on Iran.

Sami Rasouli is an Iraqi-American who lived in Minnesota for many years before returning to Iraq after the U.S. invasion and occupation. Sami works in Iraq with the Muslim Peacemakers Team (MPT), a group dedicated to the principles of nonviolence. He returns to this country for one or two months each year to help build bridges between the peoples of his two homes. One of his goals during this visit is to inform Minnesotans about the English for Reconciliation program in Iraq and to recruit Americans interested in participating in the program.
