Visioning Reproductive Justice: Zine Making at The Future

  • Seen The Future 2223 E. 35th St., Minneapolis, Minnesota 55407 (map)

Zines, self-published short “magazines,” have been a form of activism for decades. Zines emerged from marginalized communities whose stories, activism, and visions for the future were pushed to the margins in mainstream media and culture. Join TakeAction Minnesota and UnRestrict Minnesota at The Future for a night of zinemaking and storytelling—all skill levels welcomed.

Come during the first half hour to learn more about TakeAction Minnesota and hear from Lacey Prpic Hedtke, owner of The Future, organizer of Twin Cities Zinefest, and former organizer of the Zine Apothecary. Lacey will share examples of the role zines have played in activism, gender justice, and reproductive rights. Then spend the rest of the time meeting other people passionate about reproductive rights, health, and justice and work on your zine.

We'll have zine templates available that you can fill out, as well as materials available for you to let your imagination run free. Participants will have the *option* to make a copy of their one-page zine and exchange it with people at the event, and have their zine shared online and at various places around town.
