Join the State of Minnesota Governor’s Council on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday as we host the 33rd Annual Celebration of the MLK Holiday! On Monday, January 21, 2019, we will celebrate “Women of Color in STEM” at the Ordway Theater (345 Washington Avenue) in St. Paul.

This celebration is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and will fill up fast, so please arrive early. ASL interpreters and CART Services will be available on site. If you have additional requests for a reasonable accommodation, or want more information about the event email


The keynote speakers for this event are Dr. Mae Jemison, the first woman of color to travel in space, and 3M CEO Mike Roman. We will have a live DJ, a youth rally, and speakers to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The event will honor and aware Dr. Reatha Clark King and Mrs. Katherine Coleman Johnson. Dr. Reatha Clark King is an event, businesswoman, philanthropist, and educator, and will receive the Civil Rights Legend Award. Mrs. Katherine Coleman Johnson is an educator, mathematician, and NASA pioneer and trailblazer, and will receive the Governor’s Equity and Justice Legacy Award.

The celebration is hosted by Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan and sponsored by 3M. The emcees for the event are Adrrienne Broaddus and James Burroughs.
