Labor and #MeToo

  • East Side Freedom Library 1105 Greenbrier Street Saint Paul, MN, 55106 (map)

The East Side Freedom Library invites you to the first in a series of monthly conversations on "Labor and Social Movements"

This past year, the emergence of the #MeToo movement has impacted our country's climate from the media, to corporate boardrooms, to the electoral arena, and, of course, to the workplace. Important questions have been raised:

-What roles have unions played in making workplaces safe zones for workers of all gender orientations?
-What more could unions do?
-How have unions themselves been sites of sexual harassment?
-How can the labor movement build a collaborative relationship with movements for gender justice and equity?

Christa Mello, President of UNITE HERE Local 17, and Bobbie Miller Thomas, AFSCME Local 34, will lead our conversation. Please bring your experiences, your concerns, and your ideas.

These conversations are co-sponsored by the University of Minnesota's Labor Education Service.
